Sieck, Gary C., and Michael Regnier. Invited Review: Plasticity and energetic demands of contraction in skeletal and cardiac muscle. J Appl Physiol 90: 1158–1164, 2001.—Numerous studies have explored the energetic properties of skeletal and cardiac muscle fibers. In this mini-review, we specifically explore the interactions between actin and myosin during cross-bridge cycling and provide a conceptual framework for the chemomechanical transduction that drives muscle fiber energetic demands. Because the myosin heavy chain (MHC) is the site of ATP hydrolysis and actin binding, we focus on the mechanical and energetic properties of different MHC isoforms. Based on the conceptual framework that is provided, we discuss possible sites where muscle remodeling may impact the energetic demands of contraction in skeletal and cardiac muscle.

متن کاملNeuregulins Response to Exercise: a Mini Review
The Neuregulin is a member of the epidermal growth factors (EGF) family of receptor kinases, was originally identified as the product of the transforming gene derived from chemically induced rat neuroblastoms. A variety of different protein isoforms are produced from single Neuregulin gene. Four distinct vertebrate gene encode Neuregulin, prosaically named NRG1, NRG2, NRG3, and NRG4. Most of bi...

Reid, Michael B. Invited Review: Redox modulation of skeletal muscle contraction: what we know and what we don’t. J Appl Physiol 90: 724–731, 2001.—Over the past decade, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO) derivatives have been established as physiological modulators of skeletal muscle function. This mini-review addresses the roles of these molecules as endogenous regulators of ...
متن کاملThe effect of resistance exercise on oxidative stress in cardiac and skeletal muscle tissues of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
Abstract Background and Objective: It has been shown that oxidative stress increases in diabetes and it has an important role in its development and subsequent complications. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of acute resistance exercise on oxidative stress in skeletal muscle and cardiac tissues of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: Twenty male ...
